Opening sequences

An opening sequence, or opener, is a full-screen animated introduction that establishes identity, subject, and tone before the main content begins.

This is the umbrella term Veena uses for these compositions. More specific terms describe particular kinds of opener:

  • Brand ident — a short logo or brand-name reveal.
  • Title sequence — a longer introduction organized around a title and supporting motion.
  • Title card — usually one mostly static title screen, not an entire animated sequence.
  • Background treatment — an atmospheric visual such as a wave mesh that becomes an opener when combined with titles and timing.

Veena's opening-sequence collection is intentionally extensible. New openers can be added when a story needs a distinct visual language without forcing every introduction into one component.

Choosing an opener

Use the 3D title ident when the brand or product name is the central reveal. Use a wave opener when atmosphere and continuous motion matter more than narrative detail. Use a newspaper montage when several headlines, dates, publications, or archival pages need to establish context quickly.

An opener does not have to be a single reusable Tattva. It can be a scene-level composition built from reusable pieces. What makes it an opening sequence is its narrative role: it introduces what follows.

Example organization

Executable opener scenes live under examples/openings/. Example discovery is recursive:

npm run example -- openings/kavriq-opening
npm run example -- openings/wave-mesh-background
npm run example -- openings/newspaper-opening

Add future opening sequences to the same folder and document their purpose here. Reusable implementation code should continue to live in the most appropriate public package, such as veena/storytelling or veena/composite.
